Support us through the Festive Season

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, like many other NHS hospitals, has had a challenging year dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. The effects COVID-19 has had on patients and staff at the ROH have been unprecedented and many of these may be long-term.
For the safety of patients and staff, loved ones are now no longer allowed to accompany or visit patients at the hospital. Because of this, patients may feel more isolated and anxious about their hospital stay. As the pandemic continues, staff members face more and more uncertainty each shift, causing many to feel stressed, anxious and overwhelmed.
Over the Christmas period, our dedicated staff will continue to work hard to spread love, cheer and provide outstanding services to those who visit ROH.

Why your support is so important

By supporting our Christmas Appeal you will be helping us to bring new initiatives to help distract, entertain and connect patients to their loved ones, as well as prioritise staff health and wellbeing throughout this stressful period.

By donating:

  • £10, we could provide a set of single use puzzle books to a patient to help encourage mindfulness whilst in hospital.
  • £15, we could purchase a staff gift box to share our thanks for their incredibly hard work.
  • £50, we could purchase a dementia support box for patients to help distract them from being away from their loved ones.
  • £100, we could purchase a smart bedside unit which enables video calling facilities, as well as access to the latest films.
  • £200, we could support refreshments and distraction facilities in our staff wellbeing areas across the Trust.

How we are supporting staff

The ongoing emotional impact COVID-19 has had on staff has been overwhelming. We feel it is our job to help give staff the enhanced support they need.

Christmas is already a hard time of year for many, but now with pandemic restrictions in place it is proving even harder for those working at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.

In light of this we will be offering:

  • Increased Mindfulness and counselling within the Trust.
  • Access to a relaxation space for those in crisis.
  • Providing gifts to all staff members across the hospital to show our thanks for their incredible hard work this year.
How we are supporting patients

We are also fundraising to help patients feel more connected with their loved ones.

With your support, we would like to implement a new free and up-to-date entertainment system for patients across the Trust. This will offer a distraction to patients through being able to watch their favourite movies, TV shows or read the latest newspaper, as well as offer video and phone call facilities to contact their loved ones from their bedside.

As usual we will also be gifting patients unable to get home to loved ones this festive season with gifts on Christmas Eve.

  • “The more I hear about the pressures on the NHS, the more impressed I am at the service I have received from the Royal Orthopaedic. Your hospital sets a standard for the rest of the NHS to aspire to. I am very grateful to you all and want to express a big thank you to your team.”

  •
