The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital treat a high number of people with Learning Disabilities each year. We’re proud of the care we offer to everyone and we are always keen to make improvements wherever possible. The trust are constantly working hard to make sure the services provided meet the needs of all people, including those with learning disabilities. We want to ensure both staff feel confident in supporting patients as well as patients feel supported through every step of their care journey. We want to do more but need your help!
Support specialist training
We want to provide extra specialist training to our staff so that anyone with a Learning Disability who visits our hospital will be cared for in a way which exactly meets their needs. Our aim is to make this training mandatory so that it becomes embedded in the culture of the trust and helps to go above and beyond for both our staff and learning disability patients visiting the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.
Last year we trialled a performance based training session with Misfits Theatre which went down really well. Over 100 staff attended and stated it gave them real insight into what it’s like to live with a learning disability.
“The training is often based on our own experiences of discrimination, bullying and living with a learning difficulty. We are recognised for providing training which is unique and which people want to come to!We use drama to draw out the subtleties of discriminatory practices and the impact they have on the lives of people who experience discrimination and inequality.” https://misfitstheatre.com/about-us/training/
We would like to roll out this performance based training approach to all clinical staff within ROH in order to give an enhanced level of care to patients visiting us.
We believe that people who visit any NHS trust deserve amazing care. To help support additional training to one member of staff costs just £5. To train all frontline staff within the organisation it would cost just £800, a small cost but worth it for the huge positive impact! Could you help?
