Patient Support Fund

Helping ease financial pressures for patients during treatment and recovery.

The Royal Orthopaedic Charity’s (ROC) Patient Support Fund helps patients experiencing financial difficulties as a result of their treatment at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.

As a national centre of excellence, many patients travel long distances for specialist surgery, rehabilitation, pain management and cancer treatment. While NHS care is free, the additional costs of travel, accommodation, parking and time away from home can place considerable pressure on patients and their families.

The Patient Support Fund provides practical financial assistance to help ensure patients can access the care they need without unnecessary financial stress.

Karen’s Story

Following surgery for bone cancer, Karen needed to attend a week-long intensive physio and hydrotherapy programme at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital as part of her recovery.

Living nearly 100 miles from the hospital, the cost of travelling to and from appointments created additional financial pressure at a time when she needed to focus on rebuilding her strength and independence.

Thanks to support from the Patient Support Fund, Karen was able to attend every session and concentrate on her recovery without the added worry of travel costs.

Stories like Karen’s demonstrate how relatively small amounts of financial support can make a significant difference, ensuring patients can access the specialist treatment and rehabilitation they need.

Help Us Support More Patients

Demand for the Patient Support Fund continues to grow as more patients travel from across the UK to access specialist treatment at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.

With your support, we can continue helping patients overcome financial barriers to care, reduce the stress associated with treatment and ensure they can focus on what matters most: their health and recovery.
