ROC’s ‘Arts in Health’ appeal supports creative initiatives for patients at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital. Engaging patients through social interactions and artistic expression, the workshops aid as a distraction to their pain, whilst alleviating health inequalities by providing free holistic workshops within the community.

How we’ve supported ROH patients through this appeal:

  • Chronic Pain Arts Workshops

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital (ROH) completed its first round of Art for Health workshops this year, funded by Royal Orthopaedic Charity (ROC) , set up to support chronic pain patients in managing their conditions.

  • New artwork in MRI suite

New artwork was installed in one of the MRI rooms at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital (ROH), with the aim of creating a more calming and less clinical environment for patients.

  • New artwork at College Green to support wellness

Artwork and interactive screens help patients feel less anxiety when entering a hospital environment. ROC wanted to create a positive environment for patients entering the new College Green site and that is exactly what happened!

  • Music Therapy for young patients

Music is a great way to distract individuals from pain, discomfort and anxiety.

ROC are proud to have funded music sessions within Children and Young people’s services at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.

  • High Dependancy Unit Infographic

In 2023 ROC funded a new infographic for The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham’s waiting area within the High Dependency Unit.

The infographic offers information on machines which relatives may see being used by their loved ones.

This gives a short explanation on each device used across the department. This helps to relieve anxiety and stress for relatives, carers and visitors to the department.

“At least one or more of these machines may be used on a patient at a time and can be worrying for a relative or visitor to the department, so we thought this would be a great edition to help alleviate some of that worry!” Ward Manager.
