Real Stories, Lasting Legacies

Mr Michael Dubrowsky: A Gift That Fuels Discovery

Michael Dubrowsky, a former ROH patient treated for a rare bone tumour, quietly left an incredible £1.5 million gift in his Will. His generosity funded the creation of the Dubrowsky Regenerative Medicine Laboratory, a cutting-edge facility advancing research in cancer therapy and regenerative medicine.

A quiet man with a remarkable legacy, Michael’s gift continues to transform lives through science—and gives future patients new hope.

Robert’s Story: A Life Changed by Care

Robert Dodwell was born with club feet and underwent multiple surgeries as a child. He’s been visiting ROH since the 1970s, most recently the Orthotics Department, where his custom shoes are made and repaired.

Robert has decided to leave a legacy to ROC, inspired by the care he’s received over the decades.

“If I had been born five years earlier, I wouldn’t have been able to walk. Thanks to the dedicated surgeons, nursing staff, and the Orthotics team, I’ve lived a mobile and independent life. Leaving a legacy felt like the right way to give something back.”
Robert Dodwell

Robert’s legacy will help ensure others continue to benefit from the same expert care that changed his life.

Sid’s long lasting gift

In early 2025, Ian Wilkinson honoured his late father Sid’s legacy with a gift to the Royal Orthopaedic Charity, funding a sensory wall for the Children and Young People’s Outpatient Department.

Inspired by the care their family received at ROH, the wall now provides comfort and support to young patients—especially those with neurodiverse needs—creating a lasting and meaningful impact for years to come.

“From my point of view, it’s lovely to know that—even though we miss him terribly—he leaves behind a legacy that will be enjoyed by many children for years to come.” – Ian
