Imagine the difference you could make

By leaving a gift in your will to ROC, you can support life-changing research and patient care for generations to come.

Gifts you can include in your Will

When creating your Will, you can choose from several types of gifts to leave for loved ones or causes close to your heart. Here are the most common types:

Residuary Gifts

Residuary gifts are a portion of what remains of your estate (everything you own that has value) after any debts, taxes, and specific gifts have been settled. Since this type of gift is a percentage of your estate rather than a fixed amount, it adjusts naturally with the overall value of what you leave behind.

Pecuniary Gifts

A pecuniary gift is a fixed sum of money specified in your Will. It ensures a set amount is given to a person, organisation, or charity, regardless of any changes in the value of your estate.

Specific Gifts

These are particular items you want to give to someone. For example, it could be a piece of jewellery, a car, or even a family heirloom. You just need to clearly describe what the item is and who should receive it.

Reversionary Gifts

This type of gift allows someone to use or live in something you own, like a house, for their lifetime. After they pass away, it then goes to someone else, such as another family member or a charity.

Writing your first Will

We recommend seeking the assistance of a solicitor when preparing your Will. A qualified professional can help you navigate complex legal terms and address matters such as Probate Law, Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax that could impact your estate.

Working with a solicitor ensures your wishes are clearly outlined, providing you with peace of mind and reducing the likelihood of any confusion or disputes in the future.

After finalising your Will, you must sign it in front of two witnesses. Witnesses cannot be direct family members, your spouse, or anyone benefiting from the Will. If needed, your solicitor can help arrange suitable witnesses.
