Fundraiser completes the GrimReaper Marathon with time to spare!

Joe Clarke has raised an astonishing £1,257 after he took on the Grim Reaper Ultra Marathon completing 70 miles! Joe decided he would take on this challenge after a close family friend was diagnosed with Stage 4 Soft Tissue Sarcoma that had spread from his arm to his lungs.

His friend commenced a chemotherapy programme to shrink the tumour with positivity that the tumour could be removed from his arm and lungs. Joe thought about what he could do to help and chose to raise money for the professionals at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital whose care his friend is under.

The Grim Reaper Ultra Marathon is a non-stop race that continues through the night. It is said that physical fitness will only get you so far and your mental toughness will determine whether you cross the finish line. There is a 26 hour time limit on completing this race; Joe managed to complete this in 16!

As part of his fundraising and in preparation for the Grim Reaper he also completed the Edinburgh Marathon!

Joe is an inspirational friend who took on a massive challenge to raise money. All money raised from Joe’s efforts will go to the oncology team. The consultants, nurses and administration team behind the scenes are looking into what this can fund in order to improve patient experience along on the oncology pathway.

We’d like to say a massive thank you to Joe for his hard work, and for raising money for such a heartfelt cause.  It because of fundraisers like Joe, that we can help more patients everyday.
