Stories

The people we treat at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital inspire us everyday with their strength and bravery.  Read a selection of their stories here.

Joel – Major surgery to top fundraiser!

“From the moment I arrived, the care and treatment I received were outstanding. The staff on the wards were incredibly kind, professional, and attentive — nothing was ever too much trouble. They made a difficult time so much easier, and I always felt supported and well looked after. I couldn’t have asked for better care during my stay.”

Grace – 10 years on from Spinal Fusion Surgery.

“Today I revisited the hospital where I had my spinal fusion done, and goodness me what an emotional but empowering day it was! To revisit these stairs, which I had to climb up before being sent home, to now running up and down them, made me remember why I am able to live the life I am able to.”

Anna & Autumn – A families take on a scoliosis diagnosis

As a parent I felt really helpless, but I have always trusted all the health professionals who have supported Autumn for the past 8 years”

Sarah Brain – Giant Cell Tumour Right Distal Femur

Sarah, long term oncology patient and keen ROC advocate, kindly shared her story and experience at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.

Lynda Langan was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer after a fall from her horse. She decided to donate to The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Charitable Fund after “a wonderful experience of care”.

Natasha Paczkowski – Myxoininflammatory Fibroblastic Sarcoma

“I don’t think I would have gotten through it without the wonderful staff at ROH making sure I feel supported and reassured through the whole process.”

Richard Beechey – Liposarcoma

“The care I received over the 10 days that followed was just amazing, and aided my recovery greatly. I was attended to by incredibly caring nursing staff, and quickly regained my appetite and strength.”

Nigel was treated at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital after finding a lump in his right upper arm.

Kaddy Benyon – Biopsy Story

“I was a long way from home and unable to have visitors for the duration of my week-long stay. It was a frightening time but would have been more so had I not been cared for by such compassionate, intuitive, playful and encouraging NHS staff”

Chelsea Butler – Hip Dysplasia

“The care I have received from the Young Adult Hip Department has been outstanding and I believe they deserve recognition for the amazing work they do.”

Peter Lloyd – Osteosarcoma

“I cannot fault the care I have been given, I’m eternally grateful for all of the expertise from everyone at ROH. Without you I wouldn’t be here.”
