Donations to ROC continue to make a large impact at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, below are just some examples of this.
New artwork was installed in one of the MRI rooms at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital (ROH), with the aim of creating a more calming and less clinical environment for patients.
ROC is proud to support The ROH’s innovative JointCare programme — a forward-thinking approach to hip and knee replacement surgery that is improving outcomes and patient experience.
“The room is often used for patients who are in shock and/or very upset. It’s great we now have a calming and comfortable space to take them during this time” Helen Alldrick – Outpatients Ward Manager
Young adult rooms complete with entertainment and wall art have been launched across the Trust with support from ROC.

In april 2023 The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital’s (ROH) Physiotherapy and Podiatry departments were relocated to a new site called College Green. Royal Orthopaedic Charity (ROC) have been involved in planning, design and launch of this exciting new site which will be used to support many orthopaedic patients across Birmingham & Solihul.
ROC were pleased to create and implement such a meaningful initiative to give immediate and urgent support to ROH patients nationwide, as well as colleagues who live closer to Birmingham.
ROC enabled the Trust to purchase 115 devices, split between televisions and iPads which means every patient on a ward has the ability to access the system for playing games, browsing the web or log in to their own streaming services.
Nearly a year on since the launch, a survey was completed which found, over 70% of respondents stated the new system improved their patient stay.
A £15,000 renovation funded by ROC’s Children & Young People’s Appeal which includes new sensory facilities, reflection spaces and interactive games available for patients ages 0 – 17 to enjoy!
“The video helps in many ways, one being helping patients come to terms with the condition and understanding how to self-manage its effects. Chronic pain affects individuals’ employment status, daily activities, relationships, mood, sleep and general health among others, implementing this small change can have a great impact on the mental wellbeing of patients.” Liza Tharakan
A small project funded by ROC with incredible results. Individuals involved found that giving patients an ice lolly reduced their length of stay in recovery, improved their wellness, reduced thirst, sore throat and PONV and potentially saved a small amount of money.
